Singeling Constructie-Lastechniek from Wormerveer, led by Laurens Singeling as the fourth generation, is a company known for its craftsmanship in welding, sheet metal, and construction work.

They primarily take on challenging projects that demand high-quality standards, have unique designs, or involve materials that are difficult to weld. Their motto “no weld too difficult” is proven every day. They won the Smart Manufacturing Award in 2021, a testament to their forward-thinking approach.

In PTA welding (Plasma Transferred Arc Welding), precision and control over complex welding movements are essential. The requirements are so high that it is difficult to achieve them with manual welding. Therefore, Singeling sought a machine that not only positions accurately but can also perform complex movements with high repeatability.

Fortunately, PTA welding is well-suited for automation. Robert Schildermans, Sales Engineer at Wouters, explains: “For this welding process, it is primarily important that the workpiece is positioned accurately. A second important requirement is the extremely low rotation speed of the positioner.”

Eventually, Singeling’s eye fell on the Pema Skymaster Pro APSI.

During a demo, it quickly became clear that the manipulator is easy to operate and program. The operator chooses from a library of 1,750 positions and 35 cycles. Versatile yet straightforward.

The Skymaster is very satisfactory according to Johan Singeling: “Our employees can use it with ease. What stands out to us is the robust setup and the integrated and easily accessible control part. Furthermore, all movements are precise and easy to adjust. The up and down movement is hydraulically executed as well as the movement that allows the table to tilt up to 135°. And of course, the low rotation speed where the manipulator is capable of providing sufficient torque; even for very heavy workpieces. Only when we can rely on that does automation make sense.”

A collaboration, of course, revolves around more than just the machine. Wouters Cutting & Welding tries to go that extra mile. And they succeed, according to Laurens Singeling.

“We deal with unique assignments that often have to be realized under some time pressure. Quick response is therefore an important requirement for us and that is possible with this company. Even when we have special requests, Wouters arranges it for us. Recently, for example, there was a software update. They simply bring a new memory card, replace it on-site, and we can start using a new function again. Excellent collaboration!”
